A look inside the Jonesboro SportsPlex - Jonesboro Right Now
Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 13, 2024 – The Jonesboro SportsPlex Steering Committee gathered last week to discuss details of the SportsPlex project.
Steering Committee Chair Kevin Hodges started the meeting by updating the committee on where the SportsPlex project stands and the purpose of the meeting – to help architects and designers get a feel for the direction the interior design should take.
While no final decisions were etched in stone, the session aimed to provide a framework for the creative process.
Alyssa Jackson led the committee, presenting interior design concepts inspired by the essence of Jonesboro itself. Drawing from the vibrant hues of downtown murals and the dynamic angles of local architecture, the team envisioned a space that seamlessly integrated with its surroundings.
Jackson showed plans to use porcelain tile in the entryways, hallways, and locker rooms. Offices will be carpeted. Other office areas like a break room and server room will have vinyl tile for flooring. Jackson said the kitchen will be fitted with a slip-resistant tile.
Discussions revolved around the playing surfaces of the gymnasiums. The committee agreed the 8-court gym should be hardwood or traditional basketball court flooring. There are many possibilities for the flooring in the 4-court gym (event center). Tera-flex flooring was discussed as the best surface for volleyball. Through speaking about a Tera-flex floor, concern was raised that the type of flooring may prevent the hosting of events like a car show.
Jackson elaborated that murals and shapes could be painted on walls to create flow and be used as wayfinding guides.
