Dancing With the Stars' Emma Slater Details Rehearsal Ankle Injury

Oct 16, 2024

Dancing With the Stars pro dancer Emma Slater—who was voted off with Reginald VelJohnson in the show’s third week—detailed an ankle injury that occurred during the show’s week five rehearsals.

Emma Slater has evacuated the dance floor.

After the Dancing With the Stars pro was voted off along with celebrity partner Reginald VelJohnson during week three of season 33, the 35-year-old shared an injury that will keep her out of the ensemble for the show’s Oct. 15 episode.

“So, this happened today,” Emma said in an Oct. 14 Instagram Story video, showing off one of her ankles wrapped up. “That’s my left ankle. I was rehearsing—we did a bumper rehearsal this morning.”

And while she isn’t one to have two left feet, she detailed how the mishap went down.

“I just came out of a lift trick,” she described. “I thought it was okay, but obviously I didn’t come out great because my foot hit the floor and just did that whole roll over thing.”

Later, Emma—while noting she was choosing not to disclose her exact diagnosis—shared that she will be on crutches for the time being.

“I had my MRI this morning,” she explained. “There’s a little bit of swelling. All good, could be worse, could be better. But I think I’m gonna heal within no time because, I don’t know. Gotta be positive!”

The pro dancer—who has been in the cast of Dancing With the Stars since 2012—also assured that she was not in any pain, despite the disappointment she felt toward not being able to dance.

“All is good, will be back soon,” Emma added in another Oct. 15 Instagram post, which featured her fellow pro Britt Stewart in a selfie taken at the hospital. “Thought I was gonna be cutting a rug with my fellow #eliminated pros but sadly I got #eliminated from that crew too so I think I’ll go join @thereginaldveljohnson and just sit on the couch for a bit.”

Later, Emma proved she’s maintaining a positive attitude in a subsequent post.

“They wanted to postpone it tonight,” she wrote alongside a video showing off her crutches. “I said thank you, but it’s just not in my nature. Good luck to all my friends competing tonight.”

Season 33 may be especially tough for Emma, but she is not the only dancer to have left it all on the ballroom floor. After all, Anna Delvey and her pro partner Ezra Sosa, Tori Spelling and pro Pasha Pashkov as well as Eric Roberts and Britt have also lost out on the chance for the Mirrorball.

Keep reading to see who is still in line for the trophy.

Anna Delvey

The inspriation behind Inventing Anna traded her ankle bracelet for dancing shoes alongside partner Ezra Sosa. However, the fake heiress was eliminated during the season's second episode, with her saying that she learned "nothing" in her now-infamous, one-word farewell speech.

Ilona Maher

The Olympic rugby player is ready to ruck up the dance floor with pro Alan Bersten.

Chandler Kinney

The Disney Channel star will try to dance her way to the top with partner Brandon Armstrong.

Brooks Nader

The model and her partner Gleb Savchenko are ready to strut along the ballroom.

Reginald VelJohnson

All that mattered for the Family Matters alum and partner Emma Slater was taking home the Mirrorball Trophy. However, their journey was cut short during the second week of competition.

Eric Roberts

The Dark Knight star was partnered with Britt Stewart. They were eliminated in the second week alongside Reginald and Emma.

Joey Graziadei

The Bachelor alum has found his rose between thorns in partner Jenna Johnson.

Tori Spelling

The alum of Beverly Hills, 90210 was oh so ready to dance alongside Pasha Pashkov. Unfortunately, the two last only one week and was cut from competition in a double elimination alongside Anna and Ezra.

Danny Amendola

The NFL pro and partner Witney Carson are sure to score a touchdown on the dance floor.

Dwight Howard

The NBA star is hoping to stand head and shoulders above the competition with partner Daniella Karagach.

Stephen Nedoroscik

The Olympian has his sights set on another medal—or should we say, Mirrorball Trophy—with partner Rylee Arnold.

Phaedra Parks

The Traitors alum is sure to weed out the competition with partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

Jenn Tran

The Bachelorette star and partner Sasha Farber will be in full bloom in the ballroom.
